For as long as I can remember I wanted to help people. I went into medicine to cure people but often felt like we didn’t have all the tools to really answer the question – what is really wrong with the patient? Often basic labs were not enough so we would be forced to call something idiopathic which means unknown cause. But the truth is the body always has a reason for the illness. A root cause.
I went searching for the answers for my patients because I owed it to them. They placed their trust in me so I set out to find them. My dad used to tell me that I was like a dog with a bone when it comes to finding the why. And this was no different.
I spent so many days off studying and learning that there are and then I stumbled upon threads of truth and followed them. We started using the tools and new knowledge I learned and people were taking less blood pressure medication. They had less anxiety. They started bringing me other parts of their medical care to see if I could piece together why they were feeling fatigued. Sometimes it turned out to be something simple like mold causing their illness and once we fixed it they felt so much better.
So, we looked deeper than blood work. We found gut imbalances and genetic issues that could be fixed and then their symptoms got better. Anxiety was often not really even anxiety at all but a simple genetic defect in proceesing a vitamin and it could be fixed with out medications. And I learned that you can do custom testing to see how your unique body will respond to a medication before you ever take it.
I believe in traditional medicine. I worked in outpatient cardiology for 17 years and I still work in a hospital in cardiology. I worked in the ER for 16 years of my career. I also was a 911 paramedic for 13 years. I want my patients to keep their primary care and cardiologist . My role is to support my patients as they navigate the healthcare system. To help them take less medication and maybe even fix the problems that cause the problems.
To look deeper and maybe even catch and find problems so that we can prevent the diseases that plague us in the first place.
I believe there is hope to have better quality of life. I do think the answers often lie in the foods we choose. In getting back to the basics of movement and mindfulness. But it should be paired with testing so that each patient gets the individualized support and recommendations.
You don’t have to go this alone. I want to stand with you and help you get the bottom of what is really going on and then help you fix it.
